Synod

A two-year ‘synodal’ process is taking place in the Catholic Church from October 2021 that culminates in the final Synod Gathering of Bishops in Rome in October 2023. The overall theme is “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, Mission”.

Diocesan and national organisational reports with input for the Synod were submitted to the Bishops’ Conference just before Holy Week 2022. Please see the Archdiocese of Southwark’s Synthesis here.

The National Synthesis Team then summarised the reports, discerning the main themes that have emerged from the listening conversations, and collating them together to give a picture of the synodal process in England and Wales. Please see the National Synthesis here.

For more information, see the Archdiocese’s website.

Prayer for the Synod

We stand before You, Holy Spirit,
as we gather together in Your name.

With You alone to guide us,
make Yourself at home in our hearts;
Teach us the way we must go

and how we are to pursue it.

We are weak and sinful;
do not let us promote disorder
Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path
nor partiality influence our actions.

Let us find in You our unity
so that we may journey together to eternal life
and not stray from the way of truth
and what is right.

All this we ask of You,
who are at work in every place and time,
in the communion of the Father and the Son,

forever and ever.
AMEN
